Case Study - Hong Kong Export Situation (Reference from HKTDC)
(Yeung, Cherry. “HKTDC Export Confidence Index 2Q24: A Significant Upturn Amid Rising Optimism” HKTDC Research, 27 June 2024, https://research.hktdc.com/en/article/MTcyODk3MTYyMA)
Reports and analysis by the HKTDC indicate that Hong Kong's exports improved significantly in the 2nd quarter of 2024. Hong Kong's export levels increased by an impressive 12.5% year-on-year in the first five months of 2024, but fell by 2.3% in Japan, a decline that could be attributed to the yen's decline against the US dollar, which depreciated by over 9% between December 2023 and May 2024.
With sales and new orders expected to rise, exporters reported higher than usual inventory levels. Mainland China, in particular, remained the most promising market, with both the current and expected readings above 60.
Although below expectations, the 2nd quarter 2024 index already surpassed the 1st quarter. Furthermore, the electronics, toys, jewelry, and equipment/materials sectors are likely to continue to grow in terms of procurement activity. However, high costs remain a primary constraint on export performance.
In the 2nd quarter of 2024, rising transportation costs became the biggest concern for exporters. The majority of exporters said they would increase their use of e-commerce and marketing, and put more resources into marketing and promotional activities. Despite lingering economic uncertainties, the faster-than-expected rebound indicates a more promising future for global markets. On this basis, OCS Hong Kong will continue to prepare and strive to increase cost and time efficiency for our esteemed customers. We believe that with our professional knowledge we can attract more customers to choose us.
What services would you like your customers to use more in the future?
Among all the services that OCS Hong Kong office offers, we would like to encourage our customers to use the Domestic Express Service more in the future.
Why would you recommend the Domestic Express Service?
Our aim is to ensure the satisfaction of our customers and employees in Hong Kong. Satisfaction is the top priority in the service industry for generating profit from employees and customers. Both employees and customers will show their loyalty and dependence to OCS Hong Kong if they receive enough satisfaction from our excellent service.
We recommend our Domestic Express service because today's customers expect quick delivery of their purchases. Local delivery services meet this demand by providing faster and more convenient options compared to traditional shipping methods. Therefore, OCS Hong Kong introduced the New Operation Platform (NOP) in March 2024, allowing customers to easily arrange and prepare their shipment under the "AM Delivery & PM Pick-up" schedule.
To satisfy those customers who miss the cut-off time, OCS Hong Kong has also introduced a premium service immediately after the NOP, offering shipment collection from 18:00 to 21:00. Customers can request to have their shipment to be collected at a specific time during working hours. This arrangement allows for flexible scheduling and personalized service, improving overall customer satisfaction.
Safety and reliability are always top priorities at OCS Hong Kong. We have charter vans, 5.5 ton trucks and refrigerated trucks that can serve customers on a "pick up one point to multiple points" or "pick up multiple points to one point" basis. OCS Hong Kong utilizes these vehicles to resolve issues more quickly, providing a higher level of reliability and trust. Customers can also reduce the risk of damage or loss during transit.
In the future, OCS Hong Kong will continue to enhance our personalization and develop more sophisticated customer preference analysis, which can lead to highly customized delivery experiences. Personalized delivery times, customized services, and subscription-based models may become standard.
